Romantic beach weekend without a car - is it possible?

Would be flying in from St. Louis and would like a nice place on the beach - prefer NOT to rent a car. Can this be done? Is it too cold to walk on the beach? I know the water is still cold. Are there things to do nearby - restaurants, etc? If not, can you suggest another %26#39;carless%26#39; destination in FL? Feb. 25-28, %26#39;06.

Take the Supershuttle to the Don Cesar Resort and Spa on St. Pete Beach. You do not need a car, weather can be chilly for Florida standards like it is this weekend(highs today should only reach 60), or it could be mild and warm like last weekend near 80.(more than likely the later)...there are many things to do at the resort, and there is a Beach Shuttle that runs the entire Gulf Blvd for nearby restaurants, attractions. Pass-a-Grille Beach is about 10 blocks to the south with many restaurants in a quaint little beach town...
