Reasonably priced dinner in South Beach

We will be in Miami for one night with another couple before our cruise leaves, staying on Ocean Drive. We are looking for a nice restaurant that is reasonably priced. We are in our thirties and don%26#39;t mind trendy and funky, we just don%26#39;t want to break the bank.

Thanks!

Reasonably priced dinner in South Beach

What is a reasonable price these days or in South Beach.

Most ';reasonable'; at perhaps fifty bucks for two and one

drink might be the Front Porch on Ocean Drive where

you can eat outside and get the South Beach ambience.

The main restaurant in Loews does a very exceptional

sea food buffet for about thirty per person sometimes

on Friday nights. Another option could be drinks and one

appetizer at a very spiffy spot followed by a main

course at the 11 th street dinner.

Reasonably priced dinner in South Beach

I was in SB in October and found lots of great little places to eat all up and down Lincon Road mall.

Hey there Tinks!

There are so many choices and much depends upon your group%26#39;s palate and purse.

You might wander over to one of Ocean Drive%26#39;s busy bars to warm up with a sunset drink. Afterward, walk 2 blocks inland (that%26#39;ll be west) and north toward Washington Avenue and 14th Street. There is a picturesque little street called Espanola Way that%26#39;s got sidewalk cafes and bars to cruise. On weekends there is a little flea market worth checking out.

At the far west end of the drive you%26#39;ll find TAPAS Y TINTOS a genuine Spanish wine and tapas restaurant. You can sample the vino and order lots of little plates of garlicky treats to share. Also on Espanola at Washington is OSTERIA Del TEATRO, a reliable Italian destination. Afterward, if you%26#39;re feeling frisky, you are steps away from CROBAR - a late night haunt. If you%26#39;re not into the club scene, half a block east of Washington on Espanola is LOST WEEKEND, a divey-good bar with pool tables that is ALWAYS fun and has no ';door attitude.'; All of this takes you just 2 blocks away from Ocean Drive - so you are literally a stumble away from your hotel, a good night%26#39;s rest and happy sailing!

If you decide to venture farther a field, walk (or cab) north on Washington to Lincoln Road Mall and grab a table at any of the promising sidewalk cafes. If your group is finicky, CAFETERIA is a Miami outpost of the Soho, NY trendy diner. They try to instill a club loungey vibe of an evening and feature cheap eats at happy hour and a nightly blue plate special that%26#39;s often pretty tasty. If you have decided to toss caution to the wind before your cruise, try the fried chicken and waffles. Don%26#39;t ask - it%26#39;s really good.

Venturing further west on Lincoln Mall, I%26#39;d suggest ZEKE%26#39;S for $3 international beers and hot dogs (oh wait - that%26#39;s my idea of a vacation)...

Try the thai and sushi at SUSHI SIAM, light Italian at DA LEO, upscale pacific rim at PACIFIC TIME, crisp thin pizza and a fab fried calamari appetizer at SPRIS or the mussels next door at LE BON, trendy Chinese at MISS YIP%26#39;S...

Afterward, have a night cap upstairs at Buck 15 on Meridian, a brew with the funky crowd at Finnegan%26#39;s, a homemade ice cream at the Frieze south on Michigan, or some (amazing) drunken bowling at Lucky Strike lanes (also Michigan but go north).

You can%26#39;t go wrong but be sure everyone is ';in'; since this is a one night venture! Feel free to ask more questions.

Best wishes for great weather on your cruise...

Dang. Advisor Girl rocks!!!

I agree! Advisor Girl has made all my dining choices for us.

Thanks

Hey Tinkerbelldee,

I would suggest the Grilled Fish. It is on Collins and 14th.

Mar11-18and Dis. Carib Resort..

what can we expect of weather normally

in March...swim or freeze?

as for disney%26#39;s carribean beach resort, heard some nasty things..any thoughts.

Also - is it recommended to rent a car. We have one reserved and thought it may be better than relying on their transport.

thanks in advance.

Mar11-18and Dis. Carib Resort..

Hello cptguy,

March%26#39;s weather is generally in the high 70%26#39;s with nighttime temperatures in the middle 50%26#39;s so bring long pants and sweatshirts. The pools are nicely heated so you should be able to enjoy swimming.

The Caribbean Beach is my second favorite of the three moderate Disney resorts. I prefer the Port Orleans Riverside. But I certainly didn%26#39;t find the Caribbean Beach to be ';nasty.'; It was very clean with a beautiful tropical feel. The pirate themed pool is a favorite with the kids especially the boys.

If your staying on Disney property and only going to be going to the Disney parks I wouldn%26#39;t waste your money on a car rental as my experience with Disney transporation has been impeccable since I began my travel there 15 years ago. And now with Disney%26#39;s Magical Express which is free transporation to and from the parks you can%26#39;t go wrong. To have your luggage brought to your room and not have to hassle with it to and from the airport is a added benefit.

Mar11-18and Dis. Carib Resort..

Meant Disney Magical Express which is free transportation to and from the AIRPORT! Sorry!

We go each year in March and have always been blessed with great weather. It is typically around 80 in the day and 60 at night (give or take just a few degrees on each-sometimes a few warmer and sometimes a few cooler). We always swim. All Disney hotels and water parks have heated water.

While Port Orleans Riverside is our favorite moderate resort, I don%26#39;t think that Caribbean Beach warrants any fears. We just like the feel of PO better and really really enjoy it%26#39;s boat launch to Downtown Disney.

If you are just going to be visiting Disney parks and attractions, I wouldn%26#39;t spend the extra money on a rental car. Disney%26#39;s tranpsortation system is great, you don%26#39;t have to fight any traffic, and you get picked up at the front of your resort and dropped close to the park gates.

The only reason you would need a car is if you plan to go to a lot of different hotels for meals, or if you plan on going to the grocery store. It is much simpler to take the Disney buses to MK. If you drive to MK, you will park in the MK lot, then get on a tram which takes you to the Trans.%26amp; Ticket Center, then you get on the monorail, and it lets you off near the MK entrance. The Disney bus will pick you up near your room, and let you off right near the MK entrance. Most easier and less hassle!!!

The weather can be cool or warm. Keep checking orlandoweather.com for local weather forecasts.

I have stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort, and it was just fine. It%26#39;s larger and more spread out than some people like, but we didn%26#39;t find it inconvenient.

When reading reviews for Disney resorts, double check the date the negative reviews were written. It seems like Disney had a real problem property-wide with resort quality in 2004. There were issues with housekeeping, maintenance, etc. I stay on property at least three times a year, and I noticed that in 2005, things improved immensely. The cast members in all areas not only seem to have improved the quality of their work, but there has been an upswing in attitude as well. There will always be one or two unsatisfied customers no matter where you stay.

The only reason you may want a rental car is if you are leaving Disney property frequently, either to shop or visit other theme parks. If you are planning to spend most of your time on property, a car isn%26#39;t necessary and you can spend the money on other things.

  • Can I wash a bed comforter with feathers in it
  • is it only US Service personnel allowed at Shades of Green

Husband Uk service man would we be able to book or is it only for US service personnel

    sarah

is it only US Service personnel allowed at Shades of Green

Yes, it is run by the US Military on land leased from Disney for US Military personnel, and certain government personnel.

is it only US Service personnel allowed at Shades of Green

Sarah, If your husband is here on Special Orders then you are able to stay at SOG if not then the resort is closed to those who are not US Military and/or DOD employees.S-M

Sarah, this is something we also looked into, and unless you are serving US forces then you are not entitled to stay on site at SOG. Even if your hubby has spent time in Iraq with coallition forces you still cant stay there. You would need to be on an exchange posting, or under SO%26#39;s to qualify, unfortunately a regular 4-6 month detactchment doesnt count either.

However, Seaworld and Busch gardens still offer free entry to their parks and have extended it through 2006, just make sure you take your 1250 card and up to 3 dependants can get in free too.

There is also a Navy depot in Orlando that sell discounted tickets for all military personel, you can get really good deals on stuff like dinner shows etc, usually about 25% cheaper than buying them through a regular vendor.

And dont forget to check out your forces discount book! 10% discount on all BA/Virgin flights, discounted parking at gatwick, discount on hotels etc, it all adds up :)

Thanks everyone i wasnt sure and it isnt very specific wether just Us forces

    Breakfast / Brunch

Does anybody have any breakfast/brunch/pastry recommendations?

    Breakfast / Brunch

    I%26#39;ll say!

The Banana Cafe on Duval, towards the south end. French flavor with great omeletes. Sit on the small porch.

Croissants de France at 816 Duval (assuming they have re-opened. Also French with home-made breakfast sandwiches made on crepes. Real cafe-au-lait. Eat in the garden.

Blue Heaven on Petronia %26amp; Thomas. Great pancakes and Eggs Benedict. Go a little later and have a Bloody Mary and an omelet.

    Pepe%26#39;s on Caroline. They have specials every morning, but they make an egg wrap filled with bacon, ham, cheese, veggies, etc. Go later and have a Bloody Mary. (Look at the ';lighting fixtures.';

Turtle Kraals on the bight. They, too, have daily specials but my favorite is on Monday - huevoes rancheros. Have a Bloody Mary.

Two Friends Patio Restraunt on Front Street. Daily specials of seafood- or steak-filled omeletes. Just for a change, have coffee.

And the one I keep meaning to try is the Rooftop Cafe. The reviews are good now and the menu looks OK.

Depending on what time in March, SeaOats Motel might be a good choice. It is right on old 98 and you step out to the beach.

Trying to plan a quick weekend at the beach - Feb. 25028. We%26#39;d be flying in from St. Louis. We%26#39;d rather not rent a car. Can this be done? Any recommendations of where to stay and how to get there from the airport? We are young at heart - 50%26#39;s

WaterParks and Magic Your Way Plus Questions...

I am going to Florida the 1st week of August (everything already paid for...thank goodness!) One thing that I definitely want to do on this trip that I didn%26#39;t get a chance to do last time (because I had a party pooper of a friend that only wanted to stay cooped up in the hotel the entire time) is go to a water park. Now the hotel that I stayed in last time was like 5 minutes away from Wet-N-Wild, so I was going to try to make my way there this year, but I am planning on purchasing a 4 day park hopper, magic your way plus, no expiration date tickets.

1st question is...(not really understanding the magic your way plus option) the disneyworld.com website was explaining something about the number of days works in conjunction with the amount of times one can visit the other parks (DD, DQ, waterparks, etc)... can someone explain that in further detail, please :) ?

2nd question is...WNW is much cheaper than the Disney Parks, but if I purchase a multi-day ticket w/ pk hopper and plus options, the Disney waterparks are included right? So what is the major difference or shall I say which is a better water park for me and my tiny 6 year old?

Thank you to all who respond and hello to everyone that I haven%26#39;t posted with in a while.

WaterParks and Magic Your Way Plus Questions...

    Hi Frozensmoke,

I hope I can explain this right. When I went in August I stayed for 8 days. I bought the parkhopper magic plus option plus water park and this how it was explained to me.

Since I stayed 8 days, I got 5 days to go to either the waterparks or Disney Quest or Pleasure Island. Since I didnt go to Pleasure Island, I used them for the water parks and Disney Quest. So you had 5 days to go to either parks. Not 5 times each park.

I think it would be best for you to call them directly to have them explain to you best. I personally think that Disney water parks are better for the kids.

WaterParks and Magic Your Way Plus Questions...

    Thank you

When I was watching the DVD for Disney that I ordered it didn%26#39;t show much on the Water Parks (and it didn%26#39;t look like there was really much to do). But do you know which park would be more suitable for a 6 year old and at least have a really nice lazy river?

Forget Wet n Wild and stick to Disney%26#39;s - Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Both have plenty for kids and older folks, both have lazy rivers.

If you only plan on visiting Disney parks, then you should get the Water Parks Fun and More option added to your ticket. For example, on a 5 day ticket, they add 4 Fun options. Each fun option is a one day admission to one of the fun option parks, which include the two water parks, Disney Quest and Pleasure Island. So you really have up to nine days of admission media available on the ticket if you purchase this option. Keep in mind that if you go to Disney Quest during the day and then go to Pleasure Island at night (since both are in Downtown Disney, some people see that as a good combo), you would be using two fun options, one at each. That would only leave you with two options left in addition to them park admission on the 5 day ticket. If you go to Animal Kingdom in the morning, and then decide to spend the afternoon at Blizzard Beach, you will be using one theme park day and one fun option. So you would have 4 theme park admissions left and 3 fun options.

Hope this helps take some of the mystery out of it.

If you plan on visiting a water park only once without visiting any other optional sites, it would be more efficient to pay just for that one day.

I am buying a 10 day park hopper only, the options and more gives me approx 4-5 ';other'; options but I might only need it once for the waterpark so I will buy that seperately.

The question about how many ';other'; options you have has been covered well enough so I%26#39;ll just give my two cents on which parks for a little one.

Typhoon Lagoon I think is best for little ones. They can snorkel in the small snorkeling area (very kid friendly if they don%26#39;t mind putting their face in the water--I know this scares some kids but if they are ok with that they will love it), a great wave pool, many sandy areas to play in, a great small kids section, a fabulous lazy river, and some good family and small thrill water slides for younger kids.

Blizzard Beach has more big thrill slides but still has the great chair lift (I don%26#39;t how tiny your tiny 6 year old is-so they may not make the height requirement for the lift but if they do it is fun--very slow and you can see over the park), another great little kids area and lazy river. Really cute theme too.

I wouldn%26#39;t spend extra money for WnW if you are adding the water parks and more option with Disney. Both of the Disney parks are great!!!

Where are you going to get you r tickets?

Are there any discount ticket outlets?
