Manettees and Ghosts and Screamers

Hi All

While researching the different sightseeing tours that operate out of Orlando I have come across a couple of excursions that I think would be worth considering. One is a swim with the Manettees...in the description of the package it states that ';The manettee is like a 1000 lb puppy';. Has anyone ever taken this tour and if so would you reccomend it. (I have a 85lb ';puppy'; and he could really do some damage).

The 2nd one is the 2 hour Ghost Walk in Orlando..just something different. Any thoughts or experiences

The last one is a day trip to Clearwater that includes lunch and a ride on the ';Sea Screamer';. Are these worth the price?

Thanks

Manettees and Ghosts and Screamers

Hi

Have done the clearwater trip and the sea screamer is great, dolphin%26#39;s play in the wake of the boat and you get some great photos. There is also plenty of water sports to do that day.

I%26#39;m doing the mannatee swim this year when we go in October. Mannatee%26#39;s are so gently and cute. They are nicknamed seacow%26#39;s for a reason. I have been in the mannatee display at seaworld on there special program and this is why I now want to swim with them. I would recommend both of these.

I haven%26#39;t done the ghost walk i%26#39;m afraid

Perhaps if you give the specific name of the manatee tour, it would be very helpful to those who may want to respond.

Personally, I make no recommendations on tours without specifics like names.

Your manatee tour is seasonally dependant - you didn%26#39;t say when you plan on visiting -

Hi

They all sound good to me, we%26#39;re going for our first trip next week with our four children. Could you tell me how expensive these trips are or if there are any websites we could look at.

Thank You

Both the tours I have done are with Real Florida excursions, in October!

If you really want to know, because the ocean gets too cold for these mammals in the winter, and they come to Florida%26#39;s springs and rivers to get warm -- usually from late November to early March so Mannatee trips are better in winter months as the mannatee are easier to see.

In the warmer months the trips normally go out about 7am, this is because when the temperature warms up the manatee%26#39;s leave the springs and feed in other areas so are harder to find.

Hope this helps Endeavour

Hi

Where I have found all this tour info and the costs are http://www.orlando-tours.com/....we are also considering the Kennedy Space Tour with lunchwith an Astronault....

You are helpful and precise in your answers. Keep it up.

Vegas, please stop dragging every innocent poster into your argument with Endeavour; it%26#39;s getting old.

Any manatee ';swim'; that is legal will involve merely getting into the water in close proximity with them. It%26#39;s considered harassment to approach them, chase them or touch them. They%26#39;re curious critters, however, and it%26#39;s not unusual for them to come up and look at you and even nuzzle you. That%26#39;s OK, as long as you don%26#39;t encourage them in any way. They are incredibly gentle and slow-moving critters, but as you point out, they have the ability to do some damage based on their size alone, so it%26#39;s a good idea to be cautious.

Manatees cluster in large groups in our rivers (particularly around warm-water outflows around power plants) and near our springs during the winter, but they%26#39;re much more spread out in nearshore waters during the warm weather months. Some spend the entire year near Crystal River and other spring-fed areas because food is plentiful and the lack of powerboats creates a safe environment.

Just food for thought: The more contact these docile and curious creatures have with humans the more habituated to us they become -- that%26#39;s very dangerous for them. IMO, it%26#39;s kinder to admire them from afar.

Where did you find information about a ghost tour? I didn%26#39;t see it on the web site you listed and have never heard about such a tour. I%26#39;d like to go on it myself!
