Which west coast area to stay in to avoid red tide

Ok so this is really last minute,we%26#39;re going a week tomorrow,we want to stay on the gulf coast but really dont want to encounter red tide,is there anywhere at all you know of that is totally unaffected that is beautiful?gorgeous beaches, laid back town, not bothered bout night life

i have looked and looked but every day is different with red tide i know but i was wondering if there was an ace place that we%26#39;re pretty safe avoiding it

thank you

Why don%26#39;t you wait till you get there? I don%26#39;t know that any one can really answer this for next week. If there is red tide in too many places you could nip across to the east coast.

We are going to Gulf Coast in three weeks time and our accommodation is pre-paid so we won%26#39;t be able to change it. Hopefully it will be fine where we are but we will just have to deal with it when we get there.

Have a great trip.

Because i have M.E and i want to know we have somewhere booked and dont have to try and find somewhere when we get there

I have tried to see where it is affecting like i said i know it is unpredictable but there may be a part of the west coast that it doesnt affect at all,if anybody knows of anywhere

I would love to say sod it lets just take it as it comes but as i am the one driving as my partner doesnt i want to KNOW we have somewhere nice to stay, and the east coast beaches sound abit rough for what i want,a calm relaxing beach stay

From the most recent map -- which is from last week, so not so recent, really -- it appears that Naples would be your best bet. Or the Big Bend area, but that%26#39;s more marsh and forest than beach.

The last red tide info I read indicated it was moving south into southern Lee County, but I%26#39;ve heard from people there that they haven%26#39;t noticed any effects in the air. Check out the Web sites of the Naples Daily News and The News-Press in Fort Myers to see what they%26#39;re saying at this point.

I totally understand you. We are in the same predicament, with plans to go to the gulf coast in less than a week, and I just don%26#39;t want to be worrying about dead fish/no dead fish, smelly/not smelly, coughing/not coughing. Not to mention I read on a sports fishing message board that there%26#39;s a load of crap from Katrina 100 miles off the coast of clearwater. Where%26#39;s that heading to? I just rather not worry about these things and find a nice place elsewhere, even if other people think that%26#39;s stupid or overly cautious.

That being said, we are looking for a place where you just sit and relax, have some drinks, enjoy the beach, eat out at night, etc. Somewhere right on the beach and laid back and peaceful. I%26#39;ve been searching and searching, but it just doesn%26#39;t seem like there%26#39;s anywhere like that on the east coast of Florida, and it seems like the red tide could be just about anywhere on the west coast.

It%26#39;s really getting down to crunch time for us, too.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Not so fast on the Naples recommendation there Kitty

why?!it%26#39;s abit too far a drive from sanford anyway i am thinking.....

Naples would be about a 4 hour drive from Sanford and Red Tide is wafting it%26#39;s way to Naples already.

Lol well thanks for letting me know!It%26#39;%26#39;s looking likely we%26#39;ll rent a budget villa in kissimmee then use that as our base and spend one day visiting the east coast and one visiting the west,it%26#39;s looking too risky booking anywhere on the west coast :(

Red tide is all over Fla%26#39;s west coast. Try the Keys or East Coast. Cocoa Beach/Daytona are good bets. Lots of nice places. Way far south is Marco Island but it%26#39;s expensive with not much to do. Beautiful beaches, tho.

We live in NJ and get red tide...it really doesn%26#39;t seem to matter where or when.

Have a restful trip? I do have an idea. Look on Tripadvisor under Hollywood, Fl....then search hotels for the Greenbrier. This really isn%26#39;t a hotel. but a small apartment house with ocean front rooms. Waves in SE Fl are very small...usually less then a foot...(except if there is a hurricane--ugh). Think a 1 bed apt is less than $80 a nite. (Also check www.fodors.com for ratings).

If you want to stay further N, the waves don%26#39;t get too big until about Vero Beach. The Driftwood there has recently been rebuilt (its a T/S) but supposed to be nice.

If a member, check the RCI or II site for last minute weekly rentals for as low as $99.00 a week. These are last minute T/S rentals. Avoid Ft Laud Beach Hotel if listed...not fully refurbed yet. Marriott Beach Place in Ft Laud is good. So is the FF Royal Vista or Santa Barbara (only one bedrooms) in Pompano.
