fort myers beach vs clearwater beach

please help,we can%26#39;t decide between fmyers beach or clearwater beach for 3 weeks,we will have two toddlers with us,fmyers beach seems to have more to do or more shops and restaurants to go to in the evening than clearwater ,ie:times sq .was looking at the neptune inn at fmyers beach.please please help

We were in Ft Myers Beach in November, and Clearwater in January. Go to the Edison House in Ft. Myers. Great. Forget Clearwater Beach--we hadn%26#39;t been there in 2 years, and the condo kings have destroyed it. Many of the hotels are gone, as are the mom and pop motels. Most of the beach is a construction site, with lots of chain link fences where they are putting up condomonstrosities. They have destroyed Clearwater Beach. If you do go, forget the whole area south of the circle, where the tear down effort is really prevalent. The North End is much better. There were some nice looking places on Bay Esplanade, and that area. You may also want to check out Siesta Key (fairly close to Ft. Myers Beach), awesome beach.....

I love Ft Myers... sort of grew up on that beach. You cannot go wrong. Stay near Times Square, check out the Lighthouse Inn.
