Have never been to Naples..just want to check it out for future visit, stay. The Double Tree is on some major trail...not walking distance to Old Naples. Do I want to be in the core of the town. Can you recommend a better place?
Booked at Doubletree guest Suites in Naples- Is it bad to...
NO!!!!..It is better!! We just returned from a month at a condo that was near the Doubletree. It is on Tamiani 41 which
is a few miles from downtown, but close to everything...Downtown is a
one or two time visit, then you will be happy to be located away from it. You
are 1 mile from the best beach in Florida,D elnor Wiggins State Park...$5 car entry, bring chairs if you can..Vanderbilt
Beach is nearby..parking is tough!
Lots of restaurants nearby...Pewter Mug,
Randy%26#39;s Fishmarket, Naples Tomatoes...
Downtown resaurants are good, but
overpriced!!

Tamiami Trail is the major road through Naples. The Doubletree Suites is pretty far north of downtown. It depends on what you are looking for. It is very near Vanderbilt Beach, near shopping and the Naples Philharmonic, but a bit far from the very cute and chic downtown area, and the Naples pier.
You might try any number of the smaller hotels near downtown like the Lemon Tree Inn (very cute, nice and less than a mile distance from 5th Ave. South, which is the major drag) or a larger hotel nearer downtown. The downtown area defines the character of Naples. Just map the hotel and see how far it is to 5th Ave South which runs right off of the 90degree bend in US41 (9th Street N). On the map, you%26#39;ll see a sharp bend in the highway as it turns east. That%26#39;s downtown. Don%26#39;t go with hotels too far east of that bend though. The area is a bit ratty a little further east.
Let me clarify what I just wrote:
US 41, Tamiami Trail and Ninth St. N are all the same road.
Also, I agree with the last post, restaurants in downtown are generally more expensive (They can be QUITE pricey), but there are some reasonable places like Paddy Murphy%26#39;s on 5th Ave. There are also some hotels in the downtown area that are inexpensive, like the Best Western Naples Inn and Suites. The Lemon Tree is mid-priced.
thank you..I never realized I had a response until today..Will call Best WEstern and Lemon Tree tomorrow
Do to height of season, you might need a few more hotels to check for availability. I would recommend the Bayfront Inn on Fifth and the Trianon. They are both within walking distance to all the shops %26amp; restaurants on Fifth Ave (Downtown Naples).
I hope this isn%26#39;t too late, but I can definitely recommend the Trianon which is a short walk from the center of Naples.
We%26#39;ve stayed in Naples a few times and central in definitely better.
