Advice from other Parents wanted? Travel to WDW/Orlando w...

We are planning to visit Orlando for the 1st time as parents. Went years ago when we were just a couple. I am hoping many of you on here can give us some advice as to where its better to stay thats not to Expensive yet Disney location. We are thinking we%26#39;d stay on location w/the Resort because this way if kids are tired and what not. We are looking to be traveling the 1st wk of July! which yest I know it will be busy but thats when my dear husband took time off. We could possibly change travel to May? My youngest turns 1yr old in May and my oldest turns 3 in July. We will also be bringing my mother along which she is not yet a senior!... She is a young 63! plus any other great places that we can do a day trip advice we love to hear about. LIke to go to Key West and Miami!

Hello Patricia,

I would recommend staying on a Disney property with young children. For a value Disney resort selection I would recommend Pop Century and for a moderate resort choice check out the Port Orleans Riverside at www.disneyworld.com

I would stay away from the parks on July 4th especially with little ones!!! Since you have the opportunity to travel in May I would do it! You won%26#39;t have the massive crowds as most of the children are still in school especially the first two weeks in May. Toward the end of May it gets a little more crowded. Also the weather will be more pleasant in May as July%26#39;s weather in Orlando is very hot and humid.

For a wealth of information along with this forum and Disney%26#39;s site go to www.allearsnet.com

Happy Planning!

If at all possible I would switch to May because July is HOT HOT and HOT. I know Houston in hot too, but being out in it at the parks all day is killer. If you are looking for really inexpensive and on-site you can%26#39;t go wrong with Pop Century. It is one of Disney%26#39;s value resorts but is themed all the way. It has HUGE, colorful characters and pop icon themed things everywhere, 3 pools, beautifully maintained grounds, free transportation to all Disney parks, water parks, and Downtown Disney, and a large food court. If you want a little more room since your mother is coming you may want to go with a moderate resort and our favorite is Port Orleans Riverside. The rooms are a little larger, a few more amenities, great pools and a boat launch to Downtown Disney. If you want a day at the beach you may want to try St. Petersburg area. Many great beaches. I noticed trecord, it%26#39;s funny:)

Is it funny or is it scarey?

Key West and Miami aren%26#39;t really day trips. Are you moving on from Orlando to go to one of these? Another day trip from Orlando option would be Cocoa Beach. I agree - change to May if at all possible.

Miami is 4 hours driving via the turnpike. Key West is ay least another 4. Definately not day trips. More like a 3 day trip with time to enjoy a little of the area unless you fly there. If you really want beaches, you either go west to Tampa, clearwater or a little further to south of Tampa to the Sarasota/Bradenton Area. You can also head east to Daytona or coco beach.

How much time do you have? With small children you my just consider staying in orlando.

My kids are currently 5 %26amp; 3. We%26#39;ve been going every year for the past four years. Agree with the above replies. May would be great instead of July if you can change. It%26#39;ll be hot %26amp; humid in May, but not as hot %26amp; humid as July. Plus as also mentioned the crowds would be better in May.

My favorite is Port Orleans Riverside. I%26#39;ve never stayed at the value resorts, but heard from many people that they love them. Check the web for pricing and also check AAA and with Disney directly. When calling Disney directly as if they have any ';special rates'; for when you%26#39;re going. If you have AAA there may be a discount also.

The Disney resorts have pack-n-plays available instead of the cribs, which I really like. Also, when in the parks take advantage of the Baby Care Centers. They are nice to change, feed and get out of the heat with the little ones. Our favorite character dinner buffet is with Pooh and friends at the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom. Downtown Disney is also fun to go to. They have shops and restaurants. They have a Lego store and fun little train to ride on.

I agree Miami and Key West is more than a day trip.
