Rejoice in the fact that you will not be in the boring UK and have to suffer an awful cocktail of Hogmanay and Jools Holland his %26#39;bum note%26#39; orchestra on the telly, followed by either no fireworks at all from London or a shoddy, thrifty, attempt at putting a show like this care of Dr Livingstone-I presume-Our London Mayor.

We usually visit the area the second half of January, you will be at a peak moment, no fear - Florida will deliver (at a price).

All depends on what you wish/want.

I would like to be on a Disney property for New Year%26#39;s Eve, but they do great fire-works every night...

New Years day is not a holiday in the USA (may be a government one - post, banks and so on).

DEPENDS ON AGE AND INTERESTor whom one is vacationing with

jklucca - You have been misinformed New Years Day definately IS a holiday in the United States.

If businesses are open on that day it is because they choose to be. There are no mandatory holidays in the States.

There is ALOT to do in Orlando during New Years, especially on New Years Eve. Most of the theme parks stay open late and have special events and firework displays. Downtown Orlando has an upbeat outdoor New Years Eve party in Wall Street Plaza including a large count-down jumbotron screen and live outdoor music. The Gaylord Palms Resort has a New Years Eve Masquerade gala, you must make advance reservations for this event and all proceeds go to support the Central Florida arts community. New Years Day is usually not very festive since most people are usually very exhausted from New Years Eve, although belive it or not it can be a busy shopping day for people who are determined to take advantage of the New Years Day sales and clearances at the local malls. If you want more specific info just let me know.

We went to MGM Studios on New Years Eve and did the Fantasmic dinner show package. They gave everyone New Years hats and noise makers, it was alot of fun, would highly recommend it especially if you have older children.

I have just got back from Orlando and can recommend a bar called O%26#39;Shucks on I-Drive. It is really fun with pool and karaoke. Some regulars there, say they have had really good New Year Parties in the past.
