this year we were thinking of going on a vacation for christmas instead of doing it the traditional way that we%26#39;ve been doing for 18 years with our oldest son. one destination that came up was disneyworld for my 14 year old daughter and 18 year old son as they love disneyland but haven%26#39;t been to disney world yet.
would crowds be absolutely horrible? i%26#39;m worried that we wouldn%26#39;t enjoy it so much if it was unbearable. i%26#39;m thinking maybe we would get there on the 18th or 17th.
what is the minimum time needed to make the most of the resort? i was thinking of staying for four days.
lastly, what would you guys recommend in the way of budget hotels? i would like to be convieniently located to the parks or stay at one of the value hotels onsite. i just want it easy for us to get around, maybe have it safe for the kids to go off while i rest or get pampered?
thanks!
help! going during the xmas break?
Christmas is a wonderful time to visit Disney however it is their busiest time. The good news about the dates you have chosen is if you do come in on the 17th or 18th and only stay 4 days you will be leaving as the heaviest holiday crowds have started to arrive. The bad news about the dates you have chosen is Value season rates end about the 20th so your hotel will go up in price. I would definately recommend staying on site for the ease of transportation and extra perks afforded on site guests. Even more importantly if you are thinking of allowing your children to explore together without you their is a safety edge to staying on property and knowing that transportation is provided. The Value resorts will run you around $75 a night the Moderate resorts $ 135. The Value resort I would recommend would be first POP Century and after that All Star Movies. Disney World is vastly different and much bigger then Disneyland, the Magic Kingdoms do not even compare. Even at 4 days that is one park a day but doesn%26#39;t include taking any time out to recharge or visit or do any of the numerous other things Disney World offers. It would be advisable I would think to go online with your children and check out all 4 parks and decide maybe which 2 or 3 were most critical and concentrate on touring those. If you end up with extra time on your hands then great go somewhere you haven%26#39;t planned but if you don%26#39;t then there are no regrets about what you weren%26#39;t able to do.
help! going during the xmas break?
Hi,
Were arriving in Disney on the 19th of December. We too have a 18 year old son who has been going to Disney since he was 2 and loves it still! We have had many Christmas visits and yes the crowds can be large. But because you are arriving before the 20th you should be fine. You can arrive at Disney on the 19th and still get value rates! If you can swing it I would choose a moderate resort, Port Orleans Riveside or Caribbean Beach. There are four parks to visit, so I would try and stay a little longer even though you could leave out a park and still have a day to lounge at the pool or shop. Your going to love Disney World at Christmas, it is so beautiful and festive!
Another bit of advice is that you could get the cheapest rates up through the 19th if you stay on property at a Disney resort. (I HIGHLY recommend this.) Then you can make a separate reservation for the rest of the nights IF they won%26#39;t give you the cheaper rate for the whole stay. I have read before that if you make one reservations for all of your nights that they may charge you for the more expensive nights stay if your stay is over two different ';rate seasons';. I have had to make a separate reservation one time before. They kept us in the same room and we didn%26#39;t have to move. They told us at the time we reserved the room that they couldn%26#39;t guarantee that we would be kept in the same room due to us having two reservations instead of one. (I know this sounds silly but we had no problem.) Also as far as a budget hotel you can%26#39;t go wrong with Disney%26#39;s value resorts in my opinion. We absolutely love them. We have stayed at the All Star Movies twice as well as the Music one time also. The POP looks amazing and after this next trip that we take we plan on staying there. My kids are begging me. And then of course if you can step up to a moderate they are still well priced in my opinion. They are wonderful !!! Good luck in your planning.
WDW will be pretty busy and the crowds will be building and starting to get ';horrible'; around the time you get here since Christmas is the following weekend.
We are going to be in disney on the 26 -30. visting the parks on the 27 -29. Is that also very busy or is it most usually 24-26th? Thanks so much

we are going to disney from 15 dec to 26 dec and are staying at pop century and we got value rates for entire stay. This made staying at disney a cheeper option than staying of site as most chains raised rates on 20 dec.
I have been to disney twice during this time and i have never found the crowds a problem as we have usually left before the really busy week christmas day through to new year.
an example of this is on our last stay we went to magic kingdom on christmas eve. we arrived in the afternoon just in time to see the parade. by 4.00pm most fo the families with small kids had left and we were able to walk on and of most of the less popular rides watch the christmas show in front of the castle it was lovely. on christmas eve they did spectromagic twice so as everyone gatherered to watch the first parade we went to ride the most popular rides and agian had very short wait times. We then watched the fireworks and once this was over most people left he park and were were able to enjoy the second showing of spectromagic crowd free. We left at closing time abut 11.30 and as we walked down main street disney made it start to snow it was truly magical the atmosphere the christmas decorations the lights. I was there with my husband and two teenage children the same age as yours and even on what is supposed to be one of the most busy days at magic kingdom we all had the best day of our holiday.
Go you will have a great time in my opinion the dates you have chosen really is a great time to be at disney
