I grew up in Palatka and it is inland enough that the hurricanes can do some damage but it is not likely that it will do much and it is close enough to the beach, that you can drive over anytime (about 20-30 min)

Real estate is booming all over Fla. You can still get some reasonable deals inland. You need to do research,visit %26amp; do some more research! There are books written on retiring to Fla. Look on line at Amazon, they have quite a few. You have to know yourself %26amp; what makes you happy. Like big city or not, also if you will want to work some. Also, check area demographics on line - Yahoo, there is a lot of info out there.
