Hi, my family and I normally go to the Outer Banks, more specifically Cape Hatteras but since the motel that we usually stayed in was destroyed by the Hurricane a couple of years ago, we haven%26#39;t been back. We have never stayed on the Gulf but from the photos I%26#39;ve seen, it looks beautiful! We like someplace that is not very crowded because we don%26#39;t really go for the nightlife but rather the peace and tranquilty of uncrowded beaches and relaxed atmosphere. Anyway, I have been looking at Sanibel Island-are the beaches as nice there? also, good places to eat and maybe some tennis. I have three boys-will they like the gulf side? they do like to fish, swim, etc. thanks for any suggestions!
Sanibel Island?
You%26#39;ll love it. I haven%26#39;t been to Cape H since I was about 5 so I don%26#39;t remember the beaches, but I think Sanibel%26#39;s compare very favorably to any beaches I%26#39;ve ever seen. They are ';natural'; beaches, meaning that any weed or dead fish that washes up stays put until nature takes care of it. That%26#39;s one of the things that I love about it, but many people who like the raked beaches of Florida%26#39;s east coast seem to be turned off by it. The entire place is considered a ';sanctuary'; island, and they take their environmental stewardship very seriously.
Sanibel Island?Sanibel Island is a beautiful place. I have been going to Cape Hatteras off and on for 41 years and still love it. Comparing these two is like comparing apples to oranges. They are very different. Sanibel is on the Gulf which is wonderful. The water is calm most of the time and the swimming is great. As you know, Hatteras is on the Atlantic Ocean so is wild and rough which is also wonderful depending on what you want. Sanibel has sunrises Hatteras has sunsets. Sanibel is around 16 hours from my home and Hatteras is 4 hours so that accounts for something for me. All in all, if you have never been to the west coast of Florida, by all means go, just don%26#39;t forget Hatteras. I hope you found this helpful.
