Red Tide Up date

For those of you going to Sanibel, Captiva and Ft Myers Beach, the Red Tide has moved south. Here is the link to a Ft Myers News-press article in todays paper

In part:

Jeremy Lake, spokesman for the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in St. Petersburg, the red tide bloom is moving south.

';Lee County started showing as of Friday high concentrations (of red tide) in Sanibel island,'; Lake said.

But it wasn%26#39;t until Monday and today that large numbers of dead fish began piling up on the sand. Lake said the fish could have been pulled in by the strong westerly breezes.

I%26#39;m another person from Kansas coming to Sanibel in late October...should the red-tide be done by then? Does the ocean return to ';normal'; once it clears out?

Sorry for the stupid questions...not many oceans around.

Red Tide Up date

Red Tides are pretty much unpredictable events. Even when happening, they can come and go from day tp day in the same area.

Do check all the threads on Sanibel about Red Tide and read up. It can go as fast as it arrives and I seriously doubt anyone would care to predict the conditions over the next few weeks or months. It%26#39;s just too complicated and poorly understood.

Do watch the following site for updates:

You can click through to the SW FL links.

Here%26#39;s a much better discussion of red tide by the experts:
