Is it worth the cost to upgrade from value to moderate accomodations @ WDW?
WDW Value vs Moderate
Oh, I just decided this. It%26#39;s our first trip to WDW, and it was tough. This is what it came down to for us to make my choice between the two.
*Do you need a sit down restaurant at your hotel? If you must have a place to sit down and be waited on for a meal at the resort, then it%26#39;s worth it upgrade (be sure to check ou thte menus at these places as they are no bargain). I would rather pay for a sitdown in one of the parks, or at one of the Deluxe resorts, but not everyone is like me. So this wasn%26#39;t important to us.
*Is fishing or bike rental a must on your trip? I think my family would love a surry ride or to spend a few hours fishing off the dock, but in reality I don%26#39;t want to work it into my %26#39;time budget%26#39;. We can always do this when we visit the other resorts.
*What do you need from a pool? This was the hardest one for me to decide on. Yes, my kids would love a waterslide, but the youngest isn%26#39;t a great swimmer yet, and we are going during value season, so we will swim, but not spend hours on end at the pools. As much as I like the idea of a slide pool, I know the pools at the Value will be fun. We can stay at a resort with a fun slide when all the kids can enjoy it a little more independently.
*Can you live with paying for the fridge, or get by with an icechest, or get by without one all together? I can. Sure I%26#39;d like a free one, but $10 a night isn%26#39;t going to break me. FYI if you need a fridge for medication, you can get one for free at a Vlaue resort. Tell the agent when you make your ressie, and then call the property (it may be guest servises yo have to call) a couple days before you arrive.
We are going for a Value in Feb. We may end up with two rooms then we have 2 bathrooms and some seperate kid/parent space. That will actually be a bit more $$ than one room at a Moderate, but having two baths, two rooms would be nice.
I hope this helps!
WDW Value vs Moderate
We can%26#39;t stand all the little kids at the value resorts. And if you end up there during a cheerleading or POP Warner football conference- ugh!
But I%26#39;m sure once we have kids I%26#39;ll be changing my decision! :-)
Value resort.
I%26#39;ve stayed at Value%26#39;s several times (All-Star Movies), and one time we upgraded to Moderate (Caribbean Beach). The extra money was not worth it. The Moderate resort is not ';luxurious'; in the least, it is only slightly better than the value resorts. The layout is essentially the same, a central building surrounded by a compound of motel-style buildings, and in our case our room was so far from the central Carribean Beach structure that we had to get in our rental car and drive to the main building for breakfast. There was no additional tranportation benefit (such as the monorail/boats at the deluxe resorts), just the same buses that will pick you up at the value resorts.
So either save your dough and stay at Value, or break the bank and upgrade all the way to Deluxe. Moderate: Not worth the difference.
kdr, my question to you is....Are you going to Disney for the hotel or for the parks? When we went, we were constantly on the go at one of the parks. We stayed at All Star Sports (value) and it was great. The little time we spent at the hotel was fine. The pools are great and the dining area was fine, just very casual, self serve type. When we return we will definitely do the value resorts again.
I would go with a moderate resort, Port Orleans Riverside is our favorite.
