is there sand on the beaches

Planning time in Destin. Heard rumors of no beaches, storms have washed away the sand. does anyone know?

We visited the Sandestin area from 8/20 - 8/27 (right before Katrina). Beaches were still beautiful that week. You could see that several feet of the entire beach had been washed away by Dennis, but it was like the same beautiful beach - just lowered. Unless Katrina changed things, I would guess they are fine. Especially if you are not going right away. It looked to me like the people in Destin really worked hard to clean up after Dennis.

Yep, I was there 8/20-27 as well. Although the sand did not feel the same as it did last year it is still beautiful and there is plenty of it.

Just got back on Tuesday and the beaches were nicer then than when I was there in April. Beautiful weather and beautiful beaches as usual...hated to leave!

Beaches are bigger now in some parts of Destin -- I was down for Labor Day. Sand was perfect -- water was perfect ... best I%26#39;ve seen in several years.

4th of July, the sand was blackish from various storms ... Now it is beautiful and white! Great time to go....
