Has anyone been to Longboat Key in the past week?

I have heard that the redtide is improving. Can you be on the beach if the wind conditions are favorable? We have stayed at the Longboat key club several times in the past years and love it. ... However, we are debating if we should head further south. I do check the mote marine site but wanted a first hand recent evaluation.

Yes. We just returned from Longboat Key. We stayed at the Colony Beach %26amp; Tennis Resort which was a huge mistake for many reasons. The least of which was the red tide - and it was BAD! 4 out of the 8 days we were there we couldn%26#39;t stay on the beach due to the excessive coughing one experiences. We did travel to Siesta Key Beach and to Anna Maria Island and didn%26#39;t have the same experience-we had no coughing but there were dead fish all over the shoreline. UGH! Hope this helps.

Does anyone have an update on this report?. Its nearly a month old and I am planning my trip in October.

I spoke to the LBK Chamber of Commerce yesterday about the ';red tide'; (I%26#39;m also planning a trip to LBK in late October). They said that it is ';still present'; but that it is ';going away.'; I was told that the beaches are being cleaned on a daily basis, and there is not any dead sea life on the beach, unlike some of the other keys (from what I%26#39;ve heard). She told me that it ';should be out of here in the next few weeks.'; (Also, if Hurricane Rita comes close enough, it could get rid of it even more quickly!). Hope this helps.
