Hi,
I keep reading Villa sites saying %26#39;very safe - gated community%26#39; Does this mean some are not safe? Would like the privacy of a private villa but would love some advice!!! Also need site with keen prices as there are only 4 of us.
Thanks

I%26#39;m not entirely sure what a %26#39;keen%26#39; price would be for you, but direct from owner rentals are often the best buy. take a look at:
greatrentals.com
vacationhomes.com
villas2000.com
VRBO.com
Many of the listing are UK owners.
To rent a specific villa, that is one that you can photos of beforehand from an agency, try floridasunshine.com This is a UK/US based agency with a good ineventory of modest homes, but most, if not all, have pools.
The reason %26#39;safe%26#39; and %26#39;gated%26#39; are mentioned so often is a simple fact of life: rental homes that are often empty are targets for burglery. Some few of the low end villas and even hotels attract theives. It is a sorry consequence of a heavily touristed area. I have never felt threatened or unsafe in any of the communities in which I have rented, but I have stayed in good moderate to upscale developments. Sub-divisions off the west end of 192 down to Davenport are in an especially nice area.
Here%26#39;s examples of moderate houses in a safe area

I stayed in this development myself and it%26#39;s quiet and well maintained.
Off season rate is USD$650/wk+pool heat. Private place and lots more room and privacy than with a hotel or condo.
Good luck. I think villas are a great buy, but you do give up hotel services and really need a car, or pre-arrange taxi service.

Also try All Star Vacation Homes. They have a very detailed web page showing every home they have with pictures of all the rooms and the pool area. I would suggest either Formosa Gardens or Windsor Palms as those are two of the nicest and closest developments to Disney.
Selecting a villa is an excellent choice. Also direct from owner is cheaper than going direct thru their management co. Try these websites:
www.vactionhomerentals.com
www.vactionhomes.com
www.privatevacationhomes.com/home_pbd153.html
All villa areas are safe, some are further from disney than you would imagine but you have the convenience of coming away from the hustle and bustle of the main orlando area and you can then get into the pool without interference from anyone else, prepare a meal or just a snack, a few beers and the comfort of more than just a couple of rooms. The villa we booked in july of this year was for four, we booked a three bed one bath and was automatically upgraded to five bed three bath one downstairs toilet. There were times we got lost in the size of it but would never trade that in for noisy neighbours and lifts........go villa everytime.
ParisNovis,
If you are interested in renting a townhome, Emerald Island is nice and close to Disney. My wife and I stayed in a three bedroom townhouse there this spring and we loved the place. They have a nice pool, internet room for all of the guests, gym, beach volleyball, etc. You can rent townhouses there through www.magicalmemories.com. We stayed at 2771 Sun Key Place. If you are interested you rent from the owner directly. Their website include the prices. You can check it out at http://mysite.verizon.net/thevans56/
Hi,
Thankyou all for taking the time to reply. I%26#39;ll enjoy checking out the sites.

not wishing to worry you but there was a case recently of someone offering homes on e bay for rent at silly prices from the UK -the people who booked them thought they had a bargain -until the police arrested the guy who took their money because he was lifting info off websites and passing them off as his - but I am sure yours in kosher .Its just a heads up
