passport question

I was told today that if you have a machine readable passport that you dont need to have 6 months still in date for the return journey. My daughters passport expires in Oct 06, and our return flight is in June so I thought I would have to get her a new one, as on our return Journey it would only have 3 months validity left on it.

Can anyone confirm if this is true? Do I need to get her a new one or not?

Thanks

passport question

As we understood it no matter what type of passport you have they like you to have the 6mths left on it...I would ask passport agency to confirm any questions like this as they are the experts. good luck.

Go to BA%26#39;s website and have a read:

Hey CBR, thats exactly how they explained it to me and i argued (nothing new there then!) that that means your Brit passport is only valid for 9 and a half years if you have no choice in renewing 6 months ahead of time...oooooooooooowww they did%26#39;nt like that and proptly reverted to '; thats the rules / we dont make the rules'; etc

take no stick CBR!!!!!!!!!! FOOT DOWN WITH A FIRM HAND!!

So it looks like I need to get it renewed, what a rip off! and the fact that it will only be valid for 5 years is an even bigger rip off. Grrrrrrrrrr

Get it renewed-Yes-but before you just make sure that you don%26#39;t actually require a Biometric Passport ( This has got nothing to do with becoming a Bionic Woman) as the US wants all %26#39;Aliens%26#39; to have these after Oct-05.

For the UK I think the deadline for such passports has been extended in which case you need to get another Machine Readable Passport but you may be required to obtain a Visa after Oct-06 ( If you can%26#39;t have a Biometric Passport) to be able to travel to the US on your MRP.

Rules change like Weather so best to qualify what you specifically need by contacting the UK Passport Agency

Don%26#39;t take any chances, as I understand it. You must have 6 months on the passport and it must be machine readable. I would get a renewed one for her. Visit the British Passport site for exact and updated information.

I have seen people turned away at check in because they have not had 6 months on return, and the shock and upset it caused was terrible for the whole family.

This webpage is designed for UK visitors to the US and provides all the current and forward looking entry requirements. Please read carefully as there has been and continues to be, a lot of confusion about things like biometrics (currently on hold), machine readable passports - required, digital photos on passports issued after 26 October 2005 or you%26#39;ll need a visa.

This is a good, comprehensive list of entry requirements and they keep site updated. Bookmark the site homepage for future reference to assure latest info is correct.

Due to the length of the web address, you may need to print and manual enter the site.

Hi CBR600

I had to renew my sons passport prior to going to USA he had 5 months left on it on our return so needed another BUT they added the 5 months onto his new passport making it 5yrs and 5 months before it expired, hope this makes you feel better.
