Greetings (and fingers crossed for all of you in Key West watching the weather),
We%26#39;re heading out on a 10-day cruise if February followed by four nights in Key West (the longer we can stay out of the Cleveland snow, the happier we both are). Anyway, at the end of this, we have a free day and night between Key West and our return flight from FLL. Any ideas on where to stay that would put us close to the water and close (an hour) to the FLL airport?Would love to avoid a large resort-type place. Pinching pennies, too, since this is an extended journey.
Many thanks.

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is nice and quiet and right on a wide section of the beach. You can pretty much park and walk once there to a few restaurants, etc. The airport is about 20 minutes from there. We were there about 4 years ago so I don%26#39;t have any idea on current prices.

Thank you Sharla, I%26#39;ll start looking into it. Sounds perfect.
Another idea would be to do South Beach in Miami Beach. It is one of the places in the United States that has a distinctly unique feel. I think everyone should see it once. It may not be for everyone, but you will never forget it. There are a number of Art Deco hotels for less than $100. However, keep in mind that any drinks or food in South Beach are going to be expensive. You are only going to be there one night. If you have not been, maybe this would be the time to check it out to see what you think about returning for a longer visit sometime in the future. It meets your criteria of an hour away from the airport.
Lime Tree Bay Resort on Long Key is very small motel on water and about 100 miles fom FLL , but is very quiet and my wife and I had a wonderful time doing nothin at all . very relaxing and very nice little place to stop off .
I agree with the South Beach idea, we did that on one of our Thanksgiving trips, though on the front end of the weekend. Flew into MIA early Turkey Day, then spent the late morning into the evening on South Beach. Thanksgiving dinner was a wealth of delicious tapas and drinks, al fresco - great fun. After some sightseeing of the art deco buildings in the evening, it was off to Key Largo for the first night on the trip.
Oooh. Hadn%26#39;t even thought of South Beach. I was there about 7 years ago....stayed at the Clevelander (I grew up in Cleveland) which was not far from the Raleigh (which is where I was living at the time). Husband, however, has never been. I%26#39;m sure he%26#39;d appreciate eye candy....
But the small resort sounds great, too.
Isn%26#39;t it wonderful to have so many choices?
Thanks for the ideas, all.
