Best Beach

My husband and I are planning a trip to Universal next April with our two boys, ages 11 and 9. We want to spend a few days at the beach as well and were thinking about heading to Ft. Lauderdale. Any other suggestions? We were planning on staying at the Lago Mar Resort in Ft. Lauderdale but I am open for any recommendations for a better beach or better place to stay. Thanks!

My favorite beach in Floriday is Crescent Beach on Siesta Key in Sarasota. If you want waves this is not for you. The gulf water is clear as the water in your drinking glass. Unless there is a storm in the gulf the water is smooth as a lake. This is their off season so there are nice deals to be had. I like the Sara Sea Inn off of South Midnight pass rd. Within walking distance is city pizza and Capt Kurts both are very good casual dining. Other nice mainland restuarants include Shells Mrs Chens Sugar and Spice. There are many that I have not tried. Prices at these restuarants are very reasonable about what I would pay here in Charlotte. Back to the beach: it is very wide soft and sand as white as snow. The sand never gets hotter than about 65 degrees because almost all of the sun reflects off of it. This time of the year you will have very few tourists there except on the weekends. You should also have water temps in the mid 80s.
