where to stay in ft. myers?

Any advice on where to stay in the ft. myers area that is not a huge high-rise, with beachfront and not too expensive? It is hard to tell from articles/pictures on line.

There are lots of smallish and Mom %26amp; Pop type hotel/motels in that area. I%26#39;ve stayed at the Pink Shell in their Sanibel View building and recommend it. It%26#39;s their older building, about five floors high. All rooms have a small kitchen area and a screened balcony. They are all beachfront. See www.pinkshell.com and click on ';accommodations,'; then select ';Sanibel View'; for more info. It%26#39;s at the north end of the island, which is quieter than some other areas. It%26#39;s close (20 minute walk) to the Time Square area where most of the restaurants, bars, and shops are.

One of the best places is the Royal Beach Club--Each unit is a two bedroom with the bedrooms up top and the living room on the bottom floor--very close to Times Square--It is right next ot the Edison Beach House and the Park. I have also stayed at the Gateway Villas--they are very nice also. Call Hussey Vacations on Estero Blvd and they have several properties that they represent or Toni at www.beachaccomdations.com she is great!

While I did not see inside the rooms at any of these, the location is terrific and the prices are going to be better than anything else beachfront, depending on the season. The Days Inn, Ramada Inn and Howard Johnson are all next to each other and right at the town center. Beachy shops and restaurants, street performers, miles and miles of beach to walk. Excellent area. Ft Myers beach is very fun and lots to do. Parasailing, jet ski rentals, cruises on the gulf, lots of waterfront restaurants. Recommend Matanzas and Wahoo Willy%26#39;s.
