I%26#39;m exhausted from all the info and choices for vacation rentals in Kissimee near Disney. I%26#39;m very nervous about booking from an individual when it seems they are all in the UK. Any tips on how I know I%26#39;m dealing with something real and not an internet scam?

One thing making very uncomfortable is that so many of them want 100% of the rental fee upfront.

I%26#39;m looking for 3 to 4 BRs and surely there are still some places out there that only require a deposit with the remainder paid upon arrival. Any suggestions for reputable realtors/web-site/contacts? Trip is less than 2 weeks.

Actually almost all house rentals require full payment 60-90 days in advance. If you book within that time it%26#39;s full payment on reservation. If you%26#39;re uncomfortable paying cash, take a look at All Star Vacation Homes. They accept credit cards, but again, it%26#39;s pay before they hand over the keys. Just be warned, when you rent through an agency the prices are higher. i%26#39;ve rented from UK owners and it was just fine, but you have to find your own comfort level. i%26#39;d be a bit more uncomfortable with folks asking for a deposit and then waiting for the remainder unless it%26#39;s take what%26#39;s available rather than renting a specific property.

Just remember, unlike hotels, home owners have just one property to rent. Once they%26#39;ve blocked it off for you, they can%26#39;t accept another reservation. Take it or leave, they%26#39;ve lost the income. It doesn%26#39;t matter if it%26#39;s a little place on the Jersey Shore, or a 6 bedroom oceanfront villa on St John, the rules are pretty much the same. Pay in advance. I%26#39;ve been renting houses all over the US and Caribbean and introduced many friends to the pleasure of home rentals. It%26#39;s fun, but it does take a bit of getting used to.

The reason they want the money up front is that once they have sold their home to you for a period of time thats it they cannot take any more bookings unlike a large agency who has more homes and if you don%26#39;t show at the last minute that is revenue lost they cannot replace.If you want to pay on arrival then an agency is better for you but then you have to take what they have left rather than know about the home before you go.
