Homeless question

I hear there is a ';camp'; of homeless people somewhere around Sunset Key. I think you can see them when you are on the ferry or are on the beach. Any truth to this?

Homeless question

There were years ago, and also people living on boats anchored just offshore, but they quite literally were given ';the bum%26#39;s rush.'; Houseboat Row is also long gone.

This only served to make the homeless population more noticeable in and about KW. I suppose there are worse places for homeless people to live in winter. I always wonder how many of them had some money when they got there %26amp; just kinda got caught up in full-time partying.

Homeless question

Ooops...this was Christmas Tree Island. On Sunset Key you would probably get run in for vagrancy just for having less than a few thousand in your wallet.

Up to about 2 years ago there were alot of people living in tents on a strip of land just across the street from Smathers Beach. You would notice them if you took a cab or shuttle from the airport. The camp was always pretty clean, but they used the public toilets and showers to such an extent that people started complaining. (Many brushed their teeth in the public drinking fountains). There%26#39;s still a service for the homeless on Sunday mornings at that set of four little pavilions on Higgs Beach. A serman and sinkers (donuts %26amp; coffee).

Pjk

Supposedly there is a ';grassy island'; in view of Sunset Key that is home to many of the homeless. Maybe they got chased out since last February when this info was posted. ??? Anyway, I certainly do remember Houseboat Row fondly. I wanted to live carefree in paradise on one of those funky houseboats someday. Oh well, as the song goes...

Sailing to the Caribbean,

Jimmy might well be.

Picture%26#39;s up in Rolling Stone,

for all the world to see.

The rich keep getting richer,

the poor will just be poor.

But Jimmy Buffett doesn%26#39;t live in Key West anymore.

;)

Mr Buffet has a house down here. The grassy island is Christmas Tree island...as another poster said. Sunset Key was tank island and looked just like Christmas Tree island. The hurricane seasons have also had a direct impact on the number of people who choose to settle on Christmas Tree island. Houseboat Row is now on Key West Bight. Nothing like it use to be. I lived in my car on houseboat row when I first got to Key West...my first time that I first got here..that is! It has changed. Still beats Buffalo though...and pardon that comment. I%26#39;ve only driven through Buffalo. I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;s a lovely place!

Jimmy%26#39;s got a lot of houses. The tourists who go to Margaritaville expecting he will pop in better put extra money in the meter.

I heard when he does show up he usually keeps a very low profile. A little known secret is the location of his KW recording studio, which I will not reveal, but it%26#39;s a very inconspicuous building in a very conspicuous location.

He%26#39;s been down here for the past couple weeks. Some recording has been going on in that very studio you speak of!

He played some pool at Margaritaville. Gave the tourist quite the exciting story to take home...

Buffettnews.com reported that he played a two-hour set at Margaritaville on Jan. 17.

Over the past several weeks, THOSE homeless people have attacked the ferry in the narrow channel. (Particularly the nuveau poor... New Orleans homeless I am told. They have no sense of place in the pecking order!!!)

Suprisingly crafty, they actually make reservations at Latitudes (no doubt using stolen cell phones) and board the boat just as %26#39;normal%26#39; people do (with an attitude). Then their coniving counterparts swim out from Christmas Island (at least there%26#39;s a bath involved here, eh) using tree branches as floaties and overpower the crew of two, taking all the Izod, and Ralph Lauren sweaters, not to metnion their taste in Bvulgari toiletries back to their canvas/cardboard hideouts.

Then for the rest of the week they unmercifly taunt the guests from the adjoining island where they are paying NOTHING (like totally unfair)....flaunting their new pink and salmon trousers, wacky burgee flag belts, and Gucci loafers in plain sight of the loungers on Sunset Key beach no less. You can even see them spritzing!!

Whats particularly galling is the established homeless are sweating out there busily cutting and trimming the lawns, picking up the garbage and keeping their eyes properly trained to the ground while earning a handsome minimum wage that allows them to live very comfortably in the tent village over by Smathers.

Maybe this Christmas Island group should be packaged-up and shipped to Buffalo.

Our President would have a plan.

That%26#39;s priceless! I suppose you could call them ';Robbin%26#39; HOODS!';

PS: RE Jimmy: Yep, I suppose he has to actually show up at Margaritaville occassionally to keep expectations up. But he prefers to play unannounced at places like Blue Heaven.

And, he can walk around KW without getting mobbed because he can really blend in (looks a lot like the average guy walking down the street or sitting next to you at the bar).
