Area Hotels

HELP! I am planning a business meeting in Fort Lauderdale and am looking at two hotels - the Embassy Suites on 17th and Bahia Mar Resort on the beach. Our budget prohibits those hotels over $200/night. Does anyone have any personal experiences with either of these two hotels? Have you seen them and can give them an overall rating? Thanks!

There are a couple of user reviews for the Bahia on this site.

For a business meeting, Embassy Suites would definitely be best. I think you will find some pretty negative reviews for the Bahia Mar hotel, which seems to have gone down badly since either losing or giving up it%26#39;s Radisson franchise. I have been to some business meetings at the Embassy Suites and they have done a good job with food service and meeting rooms.

Thanks - I am leaning towards the Embassy Suites. I%26#39;ve used them before in other locations and have been happy. I%26#39;m also noticing the Doubletree Galleria. Any word on that?

Doubletree Galleria is just off Sunrise next to the IC waterway, and bridge. An easy walk to view the ocean (about 3 blocks, but gotta walk over IC Bridge). On watertaxi stop..which is a plus (another form of relaxation...one stop from Charlies Crab, many from the Riverhouse (was the Chart House) on the New River. Driving stinks when you have access to the water taxi ($10.00 unlimited for 3 days...check website for times..of season, they may stop service too early. www.watertaxi.com

If with family, its up to you to decide if Nieman Marcus, Saks 5th, Dillards, Burdines/Macys and the other shops at the Galleria might blow the profits of the business meetings :).

Ft Lauderdale actually gave Raddision needed upgrades for the hotel they managed (Bahia Mar). They did not think repar could support the upgrades, they gave up the management. Last I heard (june05) the management of the Boca Raton Club was going to try to take it over.

Similiar happened with the families that owned the Sheratons...Clipper and Trader. Now, Starwood is in the pix, and has begun extensive upgrades.

I think the Doubletree Galleria is the best of those mentioned for location near beach %26amp; transport. It, to is under some upgrades, including some floors becoming condo conversions
