Destin Florida Boating

We are traveling to Destin over Thanksgiving with a 24 ft boat

and staying at Leeward Key. Does anyone have information regarding the closest, well maintained marina. We would like to leave the boat there. Is there ramp for launching and also is there a place to park a trailer? Also would like to know of places to go by boat.

Diane - Thanks for the question.

I don%26#39;t know the exact answer to your questions, but maybe I can help a bit.

You may want to try:

Legendary Marina

688 Regatta Bay Blvd.

Destin, FL 32541

Phone: (850) 337-8200

www.legendary.com

I am not sure about the trailer parking situation, but I THINK that they will arrange launch for your boat.

A couple of other places that I know about. The City of Destin has a boat launch at the end of Beach Drive. I am not sure of the name, but you may want to check:

www.cityofdestin.com

East Pass Marina on the Harbor in Destin has a launch. I believe their charge is 10.00.

850-654-8855.

288 Hwy 98 E

(Located next to the Boathouse Oyster Bar).

I THINK there is a public launch at Joe%26#39;s Bayou in Walton County, but I am not sure.

You may want to check out the following web sites:

www.beachesofsouthwalton.com

www.waltoncountychamber.com

www.destinchamber.com

If you don%26#39;t find the information you need, then send an e-mail and I am SURE they will respond.

Also, your rental agent should be able to provide information.

As for short term slips. I think Legendary may be your best bet. Short term slips are not easy to come by here, as our charter fishing fleet is quite large.

The ramp on Beach Blvd is Joe%26#39;s Bayou in the heart of Destin. There are 3 ramps and is an excellent launching site - close to the Destin Pass, Crab Island and the Bay.

You may want to consider the AJ%26#39;s marina too. They have dry dock storage and will have your boat waiting for you in the water with a phone call ahead.

The cool places to go by boat are plenty in the Destin Harbor and also Baytowne Wharfe. And you must spend some time anchored at Crab Island.

hi joe,

i have a 17ft. boston whaler and was thinking about bringing it with us in april for spring break. i am looking at dolphin point. what are your impressions. also... how would you handle dockage for the boat. dolphin point does have dockage available.

how will the boating be for this size of boat?

thanks,

cincinnati, ohio

Hi Crosley-

A 17 ft Whaler - nice boat. Where you are located you will be right in the Destin Harbor and will enjoy putting around the harbor itself and then going under the bridge and hanging out around Crab Island and boating in the Bay.

You can enjoy great speckled trout and redfish fishing in the Bay and the surrounding Bayous. I fish regularly all around Joe%26#39;s Bayou in my kayak.

A boat that size would not comfortably take on the pass out to the Gulf unless it was an absolutely flat day.

You%26#39;ll have a blast!

thanks joe,

its a 1967 whaler at that. that is what i figured for the boat. just an opportunity to get the family out on the water a few days of our trip.

your thoughts on dolphin point?

crosley

Can%26#39;t tell you much about Destin Point other than the location is great and the buildings look nice.

Oops - I meant Dolphin Point.

Thanks jppub and joemammy for the info regarding boating and Destin.
